After bringing 4WD technology to the world of rallying and demonstrating its overwhelming power, Audi's next goal was to challenge 4WD in circuit racing. Based on the A4 Quattro 4-door sedan, the car made its debut in Class 2 touring car racing in 1995. The following year, in 1996, it also competed in the BTCC in England.
The engine was a longitudinally mounted inline 4-cylinder 2-liter that produced over 300 horsepower. Power was transmitted to all four wheels by a quattro system via a six-speed sequential gearbox.
The 4WD A4 won the championship with driver Frank Biela, despite the 100 kg "weight handicap" imposed on the 2WD machine.
This was a great testament to the effectiveness of 4WD in racing on circuit courses on paved surfaces.
About the Model:
This plastic model assembly kit reproduces the Audi A4 Quattro, which Audi sent to the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) in 1996, in a completely new mold.
From its body form to the details on the underside of the chassis that reproduce the 4-wheel drive mechanism, and even the expression of the cockpit, which is unique to competition models, are accurately reproduced while also taking ease of assembly into consideration.
Markings are provided for Frank Biela's car, number 45, and John Binchclift's number 44 car, both from Audi Sport UK, which won the series championship in the 1996 season.
The body finish of the simple style is enhanced by the detailed reproduction of details such as the wing on the rear and the front spoiler detail. The cockpit also features a reproduction of the roll bar and interior equipment to create a spartan atmosphere.
This machine that opened a new era in the history of touring car racing is a must-have model!
