The Volvo 240 is a Swedish middle class car that debuted on the market in 1974 and its production continued until May 1993. Approximately 2.86 million units of this successful vehicle were produced in its course. In the basic version, the car was 490 cm long, 171 cm wide and the wheelbase was 264 cm. The 240 model was developed and put into production by Volvo to replace the 140 model, which in turn was produced between 1966 and 1974. The main designer of the car was Jan Wilsgaard. The new car, compared to its predecessor, received, above all, completely power units with a better work culture. The body style was also changed by introducing large rectangular headlights - characteristic of virtually all models of the brand in the 70s and 80s of the twentieth century. An improved gearbox was also introduced. Undoubtedly, all these changes and novelties had a positive impact on the Volvo 240, which was also characterized by very high reliability, a high level of safety and the legendary durability and resistance of the body to corrosion. What's more, it also ensured - for a car of this class - high driving comfort. It is worth adding that in the course of production, several engines with a capacity of 2.0 to 2.7 liters and a maximum power of 79 to 141 HP were used as power units in this model.
